THE latest Malvern United Angling Association cup competition was fished on the club's water on the Severn last Sunday.

The river was carrying some extra rainwater and flowing quite hard which made life difficult for members and resulted in eels being the only fish willing to feed in the conditions.

Match secretary Ian Goddard took the cup by fishing the feeder and maggot on the hook for a 6-2-0 net of wrigglers from peg 35.

Just pushed out of first spot was Tom Hawker who took a similar catch on the feeder but also managed one skimmer in his 6-0-0 haul from peg 20.

Third place went to ex-match star Dave Harris with 4-4-0 comprising of eels and bleak caught on feeder and whip tactics from peg 40.

Sandford series

IAN Goddard came out on top in the latest round of the Wednesday evening Sandford series on the Severn.

Catches in these evening contests have improved greatly and Ian fished a groundbait feeder with red maggot on the hook to take 8-10-0 of skimmers from Peg 15.

Paul Bick was on the next peg but this time had to be content with second place, still managing 7-1-0 of skimmers using similar tactics to Ian.

Tom Hawker fished a maggot feeder from peg 4 to take a mixed net of 5-6-0 and third place.

With just one contest to go in the series the leader board has a familiar look with Paul Bick in front with 22 points but Ian Goddard is close behind in second with 18 points.

Ian can take the league if he wins the last match and Paul doesn't get in the points.

Last year's winner Steve Davies is in third he cannot emulate last years finish but may grab second if Ian suffers a blank in the next match.

Former chairman Dennis Flanagan continued his good run in the league by taking the fourth contest with a net of 4-10-0 from peg one. Dennis caught several small skimmers in his winning haul using swimfeeder tactics.

In second place was Steve Davies with 2-9-0 from peg 23. Steve also caught skimmers on the feeder.

Third was champion elect Paul Bick with a similar net for 2-6-0.

The latest contest saw peg one produce the goods once again but it was Steve Davies this time who took advantage with a very impressive 11-1-0, consisting of skimmers and bream. Feeder tactics again proved successful for Steve.

Match Secretary Ian Goddard took second spot with 3-10-0 of skimmers and eels.

Paul Bick found himself in the frame again with 3-8-0 for third.

Scramble

THE latest round of the Saturday Scramble series saw the Avon at Birlingham in unresponsive mood with anglers struggling for bites in the heat.

Jerry Thomas came out on top with 3-0-0 consisting of bleak and small chub taken of the top from peg 40. Ian Goddard took perch, roach and bleak for 2-0-0 and second place. Third spot went to Mike Spragg who weighed in 1-12-0.

The next club contest is a Saturday Scramble to be fished on the Severn tomorrow (Saturday), draw 3pm.
