TOWN residents are being assured that they have nothing to fear when Bromsgrove District Council introduces the new refuse collection service, next year.

A special help line has been set up at the Council House in Burcot Lane to answer any queries townsfolk may have concerning the way in which their rubbish will be collected.

The authority's director of environmental services, David Williams said: "Some people have expressed their concerns about various aspects of the new system but we want to assure them that every situation will be looked into and problems solved.

"Several issues have already been raised, including the lack of storage space, access problems and difficulties the elderly and infirm may have handling the wheelie bins, but we are taking these matters into account and will be dealing with them all."

The new kerbside collection scheme for both green waste and dry recyclables will be gradually introduced throughout the district starting in March next year.

David added: "If you think you have a problem, then please call us.

"We have looked into the way the system works very carefully and are fully confident that it can be adapted to suit everyone," David said.

The council's environmental strategy officer, Richard Johnson is urging anyone wishing to find out more information about the change in the town's refuse collection service to call 01527 881633.
