WORLD famous artists are gearing up for the Ross-on-Wye International Festival.

Music-lovers will be spoilt for choice at the event, which runs from Thursday, August 7, to Sunday, August 17.

Outstanding performers include Van Morrison, with two performances on August 15, Beth Orton on August 11 and Elkie Brooks, the most prolific female album seller of the past two decades, on August 10.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with violinist Clio Gould as soloist, will be performing a comprehensive programme on August 17.

Dramatic highlights include American actor Steven Berkoff's one-man show on August 12 and the grand-daughter of Charlie Chaplin, Aurlia Thiere, in the UK premiere of the fantastical L'Oratorio d'Aurlia on August 7.

Comedians Rhona Cameron (August 8) and Jeremy Hardy (August 16) will have audiences rolling in the aisles while flamenco dancer Eva Yerbabuena will be visiting the festival on August 8, having enjoyed a sell-out season at London's Sadler's Wells theatre.

Lovers of pottery and porcelain can attend a "bring an object" and talk by BBC television's Antiques Roadshow expert Henry Sandon on August 17.
