MANAGEMENT at the Three Counties Showground say two events have been cut from its schedule after complaints about disruption and noise.

Showground chief executive Gareth Smith told members of Malvern Wells Parish Council the Kit Car Show would no longer be taking place.

The American Extravaganza has also been cancelled.

Speaking at a meeting last Thursday, Mr Smith said: "There are two events that caused particular problems and they will not be coming back."

He added: "We want to see fewer events, but more quality."

But Lizzie Diamond, organiser of the American Extravaganza, said: "We were not cut. We decided we did not wish to carry on using the venue as we had problems dealing with the new management. We now use another showground."

Mr Smith said the move, which is expected to cost the showground around £20,000, is one of the measures introduced in response to issues raised over the number of events held at the showground and the resulting problems for some neighbours.

He said liaison officers would be present at future events and would be directly responsible for mediating between event organisers and the public and dealing with complaints.

A voluntary code of conduct will also be in place to ensure event organisers and visitors act responsibly.

Mr Smith pointed out that despite numerous complaints about noise levels, the showground had never actually breached any legal sound limitations.

But he said: "We have asked event organisers to ensure PA systems are pointing downwards and inwards in future."

The plans were greeted with enthusiasm by Malvern Wells Parish Council.

Parish clerk Susan Hughes said: "It's very good that channels of communication have been opened. I think the members seem pleased with the outcome."
