REG Moule, broadcaster with BBC Hereford & Worcester radio, visited Powick Parish Hall recently. An audience of thirty-five people enjoyed a gardening question and answer session. Reg who lives at Drakes Broughton can trace his family back to the 1700's all were involved in the countryside or agriculture. Having spent 35 years in horticulture (including work at Pershore College and Hurrans Garden Centres) Reg is an RHS advisor and regularly broadcasts on local radio as the gardening guru. He answers questions related to white fly and aphid control and recommended sprays. He addressed problems concerning wisteria, geraniums, hydrangeas, dead-heading and gave suggestions for climbers.

Refreshments were served and special thanks given to Neville Radburn for his home made cakes and biscuits and to Jonathan Gurney for selling raffle tickets. Proceeds totalled £140 adding to the fund for providing toilet facilities in St Peter's Church, Powick.

The Barn Dance held at Stockend Farm recently, by kind permission of Robert and Gladys Floyd, raised over £1,500 for the Macmillan nurses and Cancer Relief, to enable Dave Derritt to cycle to Cambodia through sponsorship. The music was provided by "Waster Waites", caller Eve, and was greatly enjoyed. A bar and pig roast was complemented by ice cream to ensure a good social evening in aid of a good cause.

All creatures great and small supported the pet's service held at St Peter's Church, Powick, on a fine sunny afternoon in July. In attendance, with their owners, were eight dogs, two cats, two tortoises and a rabbit. The vicar, Rev David Nichol led this outdoor service where music was provided by Lindall Brown on keyboard and Lynn Nichol read the lesson.

The family service on Sunday, August 10, will take as its theme 'God in small things' and will include a variety of readings, at the usual time of 11am.

A song recital with Wendy Nieper (mezzo-soprano) and Stephen Watkins (pianoforte) will take place on Wednesday August 6 at 8pm in Powick Village Hall. Tickets, including refreshments cost £6 adults, £4 concessions and children under 15 free. The church in Powick will be open as part of the "Through the church door" scheme on Saturday's in August from 2pm till 5pm. Stewards will be on hand to welcome you and provide refreshments.

Powick Parish Ramblers organised two walks in July. One, led by David Allen, encompassed The Old Hills through woods south of St Cloud to Clevelode, enjoying the evening sunshine by the riverside. The second walk took in part of the Malvern Hills around Earnslaw quarry and The Wyche Cutting. This walk, led by Jo Walker and Rita de Boer, took place on a warm morning and covered some five miles, enjoyed by eleven people. Walks for August include a five-mile walk around Guarlford on Thursday, August 7, at 10am. Meet at Miner Road behind Guarlford Church.
