BUDDING cowboys and girls are poised to take over the streets of Kidderminster this August in an exciting Wild, Wild West show.

The two-day extravaganza, organised by Wyre Forest District Council and Kidderminster Town Centre Partnership, consists of a western parade and show day, including line dancing demonstrations and a round up of cowboys on pantomime horses.

The sizzling events, funded by Awards for All lottery grants and the district council, are set to take place on August 15 and 16 thanks to the creative talent of Wyre Forest youngsters.

They are being staged under the umbrella of Kidderminster Arts Festival.

Sue Harper, the district council's entertainment officer, who helped organise the spectacular, said the parade would be planned, organised and performed by more than 100 youngsters attending Kids Klub playschemes in Wolverley and Cookley, Far Forest and Kidderminster.

She added workshops would begin at the Glades Leisure Centre on August 12 and talented professionals would help the children with their work.

"The children will have a brainstorming session and be asked what the theme conjures up and the kids will make the decisions," she explained.

"They will be making banners, instruments and costumes and the bollards in the town's streets will also be transformed into cacti."

She added the event aimed to boost trade and promote the town centre.

"What we aim to do is transform the town centre and make it look like the Wild West," she explained.

"There will be line dancing demonstrations and workshops and Ace FM are also providing the roadshow."

Other activities include fancy dress competitions, workshops, a "gold diggers mountain sand pit", Indian warpaint face painting, a mechanical rodeo bull and The Last Roundup street theatre by comical cowboys on pantomime horses, Mischief Le Bas.

Mrs Harper added she was looking forward to the activities, which are unique to Kidderminster.

"We have never done this theme before but we do something different every year," she said.

"We didn't do one last year because of the jubilee celebrations but we had Kidderminster on Sea the year before," she added.
