A MAN who went to the home of his girlfriend's former partner and got involved in a dispute has been cleared of being in possession of an offensive weapon.

Jermaine Rook claimed he was holding a cigarette lighter and not a 10ins kitchen knife as alleged by the prosecution at Worcester Crown Court.

A jury of five men and seven women found him not guilty of affray and possession of an offensive weapon but guilty of threatening behaviour.

Rook, 24, of Salisbury Drive, Habberley Estate, Kidderminster, was remanded on bail for a pre-sentence report.

Gareth Walters, prosecuting, alleged Rook was armed with a knife when he went to the home of Jamie Scott in Exeter Close.

He was said to be angry because Mr Scott had sent a birthday card to Andrea Forsdyke, his former girlfriend, who was now living with Rook.

Rook denied lunging at Mr Scott's brother Jason, who answered the door, and claimed that his cigarette lighter may have been mistaken for a blade.

Mark Kellett, defending, said Rook had never tried to hide the fact he had been abusive.
