POLICE are threatening to ban troublesome youths from certain quarters of the town in a bid to slash vandalism and underage drinking.

With the school summer holidays underway, parents are being told to keep closer tabs on their sons and daughters to ensure they aren't causing a nuisance within the community.

Complaints

Complaints about young people behaving anti-socially have soared in recent weeks and police are launching high profile patrols to keep the peace over the coming six weeks.

Spa beat manager PC Lloyd Buffery said: "During the school holidays we often see an escalation in reports of minor nuisance and we would ask parents to be aware of where their children are and what they are doing."

Officers have made numerous visits to the Lido Park in recent weeks, following reports of noise and nuisance, and some local children have been responsible for damage to adjacent properties and fences.

"I have spoken with a number of youngsters in the park found misbehaving or breaking alcohol bylaws," said PC Buffery.

"Their details have been taken and their behaviour will be monitored through our anti-social behaviour scheme.

"If names continue to appear then there is the possibility that officers will begin anti social behaviour order proceedings, which could see them being banned from entering certain parts of the town where they have been causing problems."

He told parents to encourage their offspring to attend organised activities during the summer.

"We would hope parents will encourage their children to take part in these events rather than some other activity which disrupts the quality of life for other members of their community.

Tolerance

"By the same token we would also ask the community to be tolerant of youngsters who will undoubtedly be looking for ways to occupying themselves which are not necessarily unlawful."

He confirmed police patrols and plain clothes officers will be in and around the Lido and other areas in Droitwich throughout the holidays to keep a close eye on schoolchildren.
