Mark Lewis stunned Birmingham League Division Two East leaders Walmley with a five wicket haul as Studley turned on the style at Washford Fields.

And with skipper Brandon Miller also chipping in with three wickets, an unlikely win looked to be on the cards after the visitors were dismissed for 164.

But Lewis' delight turned to disappointment later in the afternoon when torrential rain washed out Studley's innings prompting the umpires to abandon the game.

Walmley began well with solid knocks from openers Mohammed (56) and Carlos Prowse (39). But following their dismissal, wickets fell rapidly thanks to the efforts of Lewis (5-22) and Miller (3-44).

Studley had reached just five in reply when the rain came.

Former skipper Lewis admitted the team were stunned by their inspired display in the field and with the ball against Walmley and hoped for more of the same on Saturday when they travel to second-placed Blossomfield.

"We were all a bit shocked to be honest," he said. "We did really well to restrict them but then we never had the opportunity to have a go at their score.

"We are an ambitious side and want to finish as high as we can so we were disappointed not to get the chance to claim maximum points."

Studley beat Blossomfield at Washford Fields earlier in the season and a second win at the weekend would keep them in among the leaders.

"There are no easy games in this league but, with the holiday season approaching, it is important to get a good result on Saturday," Lewis added.
