DESPITE the holiday season, a strong field contested the July monthly medal at Craycombe last Saturday.

The course withstood the early evening downpour and remains in superb condition.

The event was won on countback from two rivals by Dave Everett, playing off 12, who shot a gross 80 for a net 68.

Rob Smith recorded the best gross of the day with a tremendous 74 to take second place while at the same time pushing Alan Hyde into third.

Excellent scoring also in Division Two saw Pete Clem-ents with a net 69 win on countback from Bill Dobie.

Results - Division One: 1 D Everett 80-12-68 (cb); 2 R Smith 74-6-68 (cb); 3 A Hyde 77-9-68. Division Two: 1 P Clements 84-15-69 (cb); 2 W Dobie 83-14-69; 3 H Jones 84-13-71.

In the latest Worcestershire A Team League match, the two points gained by Evesham at home to The Worcestershire was a big disappointment as they failed to return to the top of the league.

The 4-2 reverse sees them trailing leaders Droitwich by 2 points.

The visitors turned up with a strong unit having at least a five-handicapper in all but one pairing.

This meant the hosts had a tough task which showed when in form opening pair Rob and Tony Smith lost 4 & 3 and second pair Robin Locke & Sean Curtis lost on the last.

Battling qualities then enabled Evesham to open their account when Richard Minton and Dave Everett came back from two down with four to play to snatch a half on the 18th.

John Duval and John Chance were the only winners on the day after a more than comfortable 6 & 5 victory.

The experienced pairing of Lloyd Stephens and Pete Callaghan couldn't hold off their rival pairing, but James Bailey and Mike Callaghan ground out a half with the last putt of the match after being two down with three to play.
