Studley 0, Redditch United 0

Redditch United and Studley maintained their unbeaten pre-season run after sharing the spoils in a head-to-head at Birmingham Road.

United tried out five different strikers but still failed to break through some solid Studley defending as the Midland Football Alliance side held out.

Lee Ross and Jimmy Quiggin began up front for Rod Brown's Dr Martens Western Division outfit with Richard Leadbeater, Marvin Blake and Richard Burgess all trying their hand in attack after the break.

And it was the latter who posed the biggest threat - despite playing just 20 minutes as he continues to recover from injury.

A minute after coming off the bench as a second half substitute, Burgess thumped a header into the hoardings after darting in to meet a Nicky Clarke cross.

And he went close again 15 minutes later with a dipping shot that just cleared the Studley crossbar.

United pushed the ball around well in the first half and inside the opening minute, Ross sent a lob over home keeper Danny Lewis only to see it land on the roof of the net.

Defender Gary Knight had a bullet header cleared off the line midway through the first period while Quiggin shot wide after breaking clear of his marker.

Studley youngster Adam Blake had the home side's only chance of the first half, heading a corner over the bar, and was the only player to pose a threat after the break when his overhead kick from ten yards cleared the United goal.

A string of changes during the second half robbed the game of any continuity with Redditch striker Blake going closest in the final 15 minutes, blazing over the bar from the edge of the area.

New signings Burgess and Ross looked the most likely to score while, of the other newcomers, Martin Myers looked solid in the middle of the park.

For the Bees, towering defender Vaughan Thomas had an inspired match as did teenager Blake.

Redditch began their pre-season campaign with a 3-0 win at MFA hopefuls Rushall Olympic.

A bullet Leadbeater header plus strikes from Quiggin and an impressive Alex Cowley wrapped up the win against one of the title favourites.

Two goals from Craig Pountney - one direct from a corner - and a Steve Cross tap-in were enough to secure Studley's 3-1 victory over Dr Martens Western Division side Stourport Swifts.

Richard Ball hit a late consolation for the home team but young Studley keeper Paul Maynard kept them at bay with a string of outstanding saves.
