BURGLARS caused extensive damage during the fourth raid in less than a year on Redditch Cricket, Hockey and Rugby Club.

The break-in happened some time after midnight last Sunday at the Bromsgrove Road club and was discovered by a member who opened up the building at 7am.

Burglars broke into the property, taking cash and several bottles of spirit.

They also smashed doors and cupboards and caused considerable damage to the pool table and some gaming machines.

Cricket club secretary David Eley said: "This is the fourth time we have been raided in less than a year and this time, about £2,000 damage was caused.

"They ripped the payphone off the wall, took it out to the field and smashed it up to get all the change out.

"They completely ruined two gaming machines which weren't even the club's property.

"They broke into the pool table and took the money, they took spirits from a store room they broke into and they smashed a cash register and stole money.

"As well as the thefts, they also caused bad damage to the building by kicking in the doorframes.

"We are now all working extremely hard to get all the damage they caused repaired."
