A NEW method of massage is sweeping the business community because it gives people "get up and go".

Massage therapist Kathy Don said acupressure massage was ideal for busy workers because it could be carried out anywhere and, unlike traditional massage, did not make people feel "zonked out".

The 20-minute acupressure massage is given through clothes with the recipient sitting on a special chair. The masseur applies pressure to key points on the back, neck, shoulders and arms, similar to those used in acupuncture.

"It's a brilliant stress reliever but the point is you feel energised by it - it gives you get up and go," said Mrs Don, who first trained in holistic massage in 1999.

"After traditional massage on a couch you tend to feel a bit zonked out - you wouldn't want it in the workplace. But this can be done anywhere - in the workplace, at conferences, and at exhibitions."

Mrs Don, who also works part-time as an Evening News reporter, does regular acupressure sessions at Malvern Girls' College and Wychavon Civic Centre, in Pershore.

She also does massage at Pershore Natural Therapy Clinic, in Broad Street, Pershoreand at Worcester Natural Therapy Centre, in the Tything.

Mrs Don, who has four grown-up children, studied acupressure chair massage in 2001. "People are so appreciative afterwards - it's marvellous," she said.

"I find it addictive - once you start doing it, you can't stop!"
