WORCESTER City manager John Barton is confident his side can upset Dr Martens League Premier Division title favourites Boston United tonight (7.45).

City go into the St George's Lane clash in 11th place -- their highest position of the season -- following an injury-time 1-0 win at King's Lynn on Saturday.

Barton and his players cannot wait to face the challenge of Boston, who are now 11 points clear at the top, although nearest rivals Bath have two games in hand.

City battled well to lose only 2-1 at Boston earlier this month, and Barton said: "It is a chance to go on and use Saturday's result as a springboard to see what we can do against the champions-elect.

"We showed that we can live with them, and it is something for the players to get their teeth into."

Defender Martin Weir, who was again outstanding at King's Lynn, added: "We gave them quite a close game at their ground without really threatening. At home we stand a good chance."

City could move 11 points clear of the drop zone if they win tonight, which would surely make them safe with only seven games left to play.

Barton added: "We are unbeaten in four league games now, and there are points there to be had tonight like there are in every game. We have to turn up to do our level best and try and get something out of it."

Transfer-listed striker Sam Bowen could be involved in the squad tonight although he was not at King's Lynn, with Barton only saying: "I decided not to include him in the 14 on Saturday."

Bowen could still move on before Friday's transfer deadline, while Barton is still pursuing at least three potential newcomers.

Defender Kevin Willetts could return after a hamstring pull, while midfielder Paul Carty is close to recovery from a hamstring problem.

Midfielder Ian Cottrill is a slight doubt for tonight's game with a calf injury, while winger Jon Purdie could return to the starting line-up.
