WORCESTER City manager John Barton is eyeing a top ten finish after seeing his side almost guarantee their Dr Martens League Premier Division safety.

City's 1-0 win at bottom club Rothwell Town on Saturday, coupled with defeats for relegation rivals Grantham Town and Gloucester City, has lifted them 11 points clear of the drop zone with only six games left.

But Barton, whose Wor-cester side are now 11th in the table, doesn't want his players to let up as he feels they can climb even higher.

He said: "We are getting towards safety now, no doubt about that.

"But we can't afford to ease up. It is a good final placing that we are after and we can certainly get into the top ten.

"We have had six points out of nine in the last week. Halesowen have taken nine out of nine and you need to keep on doing that to keep up with the rest."

He said of the Rothwell performance: "It is never the easiest place to go and get a result, and no-one has turned them over at all recently.

"But on the balance of play it was a 1-0 scoreline going on for a 2-0 -- we deserved to win."

Barton was impressed with the performances of on-loan strikers Anton Thomas and Richard Burgess.

He said: "Neither of them have had a great deal of football recently, but at the end of it they can both feel fairly satisfied with what they showed."

City now have a free week before they entertain Crawley on Saturday.
