PROPOSALS to designate part of Kidderminster town centre as a conservation area are set to go ahead.
The plan, covering Vicar Street, Exchange Street and parts of Oxford Street and High Street, has been approved by members of Wyre Forest District Council's Executive. It was set to be rubber stamped by the full council last night.
The scheme is designed to boost the status of the area and ensure future plans for individual buildings pay full heed to conservation and heritage issues.
It also forces building owners to apply for permission before making any alterations.
The public were consulted about the plans through a library exhibition, leaflets and the Shuttle/Times & News, with only six people making comments.
The only objection came from the district's highways partnership team, who complained maintenance costs for the streets would increase appreciably.
