STOURPORT Swifts will face Kidderminster Harriers Reserves in a Wyre Forest derby to contend the Worcester Royal Infirmary Cup final.

Swifts took a step nearer some silverware after a good 2-1 win at county rivals Bromsgrove Rovers on Tuesday night.

It was a good test for Swifts who swapped places with Rovers when they secured promotion to the Dr Martens League Western Division last season.

Boss Tim Langford fielded his strongest side and had to put himself on the five-man bench despite a hamstring injury.

Swifts' higher status showed from the first whistle as they created the better chances.

Striker Andy Wright, making his full debut after signing from Rushall, was unlucky when his shot was deflected onto the bar on eight minutes.

And home keeper Matt Lowe saved well from wideman Alex Cowley two minutes later.

Rovers, the cup holders, struggled to get going and had Lowe booked for a high challenge, leaving him needing treatment, as well as Bowen cautioned before the end of the half.

There was nearly a shock lead for Bromsgrove, however, five minutes after the break when a header from a Swifts defender whizzed past his own post.

But the visitors deservedly took the lead on 62 minutes when A Wright made the most of a mix-up in the Bromsgrove defence to score his first goal since signing from 10 yards.

As Rovers pushed for the equaliser, Les Palmer replaced the hard-working Marvin Blake after 66 minutes.

But it was Swifts who went two clear and put the game beyond Bromsgrove with 12 minutes left.

A dreadful mistake by Sam Campagna in the home defence let Kerry Giddings in to score.

Former Hereford United forward Giddings played a key role up-front and made a nuisance of himself.

Rovers made a fight of it towards the end and Bowen scored a well-taken consolation goal on 84 minutes.

The ex-Worcester man intercepted a wayward pass, rounded the keeper and slotted home under pressure.

Swifts: Clarke, Mulders, Ulfig, Southwick, Charlton, Marsh, Cowley, A Nicholls, Giddings, A Wright, T Nicholls. Subs: Sandhu, Langford, S Wright, Davies, Hipkins.
