WE'RE at my old club Swansea tonight hoping to get back on the victory trail after two successive Nationwide League Division Three draws.

But, believe me, we know full well that the Swans will be really fired up as they're having a bad run at the moment and need a couple of wins.

They will recall beating us 2-0 at Aggborough earlier in the season, so there's nothing that they can remember that will scare them.

You try and look forward to every game but obviously this will be a little bit special for me as it will be the first time I've been back to the Vetch Field since I left. But that, of course, won't count for anything if we lose.

I think what will decide where we finish in the table at the end of the season is how many points we can manage to pick up on the road. And, of course, it would be nice to get all three at Swansea tonight.

Obviously, where we want to go is the top seven. We have only had a brief spell in that bracket as once we've got in there we've been unable to stay put, but that's been because of our inactivity.

Even if we do get a good result tonight we will have the same problem on Saturday when we don't have a game and everybody else does.

It means teams will jump over us again, but after that I think the fixtures pan out to make it more of a level playing field.

But, as I say, the frustrating part has been that we haven't been able to get into that top seven and hang on in there.

I think that the fact we've had an interrupted spell of late had a bearing on our match on Saturday when we drew 2-2 with Carlisle.

But we mustn't forget that the level we have been performing at for a while now we aren't going to be able to reach every match.

On Saturday, with probably the exception of Craig Hinton, I felt maybe everybody performed below par.

That happens at every level of football and you just have to accept it.

There's nothing you can do about it and it's what you do in the games which follow that counts.

Hinton did what we expect of him. He was the only one who was alive in the back four which was a good thing.

Adie Smith got through an awful lot of work, but he's playing in midfield which is not really his position. But he does well and he pops up with the odd goal every so often.

But I just thought there were a number of players who played just below what they normally do and hopefully they'll be back on song tonight.

I think it's once you reach the stage of going four, five or six games without a win that you start to panic.

But we have taken five points from our last three games and that's more than enough to keep us in contention for the play-offs.
