TRANSFER-LISTED Dean Bennett put in a hard-working display at Carlisle to show where his loyalties lie.

Harriers have accepted offers for their former record signing but Bennett has forced his way into boss Jan Molby's plans in recent weeks alongside the in-form Neil MacKenzie.

The 23-year-old ex-West Bromwich Albion man is adamant he wants to stay at the club and is delighted to be back in his favoured position of central-midfield.

Yeovil Town and Kettering Town have been among the solid interest, while Bristol Rovers also inquired before boss Ian Holloway was sacked.

Saturday was another frustrating result for Bennett and his team-mates who have not won in 2001.

He said: "We were chasing the game yet again. Not keeping a clean sheet is putting the pressure on us.

"If we had kept them out early on, I think we would have gone on to beat them. It was deja vu of last Saturday against Hull.

"Perhaps we are starting to pass the ball around too early - we have got to win the battle first before we start playing.

"But we have to keep believing in what we do. I don't think we are doing anything wrong in attack. We look good going forward and are creating but just keep conceding."

Bennett was relieved to play after a suspected broken bone in his foot turned out to be bruising.

He added: "I am enjoying it in the team. I played in the middle of midfield last season and always prefer it there.

"I don't want to leave this club - I have just got to fight for my place and prove myself."

Boss Jan Molby said: "Dean's a very fit boy who works hard but I want him to try and improve his overall play and understanding of the game.

"I'd like a good Conference player to become a good Division Three player.
