TONY Bird swooped in injury-time and fired home a penalty to give Kidderminster Harriers Reserves an exciting 4-3 win at Halifax Town.

The Avon Insurance League Division Two win keeps up a more than useful record for the competition's newcomers.

Halifax took a 29th-minute lead through Alan Reilly's deflected free-kick but Harriers equalised through Sam Shilton.

The midfielder slotted home Bird's pass from inside the penalty area but the Shaymen soon regained the advantage through Grant Smith on the stroke of half-time.

Bird's close-range tap-in levelled again on the hour but Chris Clarke headed Halifax back in front just three minutes later.

Defender Parfait Medou-Otye was on the spot to slam a third Harriers goal following a corner.

And Harriers completed a ding-dong battle by snatching a winner through Bird.

Trialist Alex Kevan, released by Burnley, was sent sprawling by keeper Peter Crookes and Bird tucked away the spot-kick.

Harriers also gave an outing to former Crewe Alexandra keeper Mark Smith.
