I WISH to register my protests against plans for the proposed extension of Wolverhampton Airport.

In the midst of a massive industrial and housing conurbation, Bewdley and the Wyre Forest stand out as the only tranquil oasis in hundreds of square miles.

The forest is the second largest natural one in the whole of England and the market town provides both relaxation and holidays to masses, and serves as a breath of air for those living in the conurbation of the West Midlands, who come here at weekends to relax, fish the River Severn, walk in the forest, or simply enjoy the history and quaintness of the town itself.

The very idea of large planes stacking above such an area with increasing frequency and the noise and other pollution that would result, is an anathema to any thinking person.

It would have a devastating impact on visitors and inhabitants alike and, not least, to those unfortunate inhabitants who have invested in property here in order to get away from all that is associated with airports, industry, road developments, pollution and massive conurbations.

The views and requirements of inhabitants of the Wyre Forest cannot, and must not, be simply trodden down in yet another attempt to thrust developments on them which they do not want and never contemplated as being remotely feasible in such a special area.

On no account must this proposal be allowed to proceed.
