BOWLING: The last of the Kidderminster and District Midweek Bowling League competitions were completed over the weekend.

The Rafmain Cup honours went to Bewdley's Ray Underhill, Pete Byng and Tom Phillips who beat Stuart Logan, Gavin Logan and Malcolm Wyatt, of Chainwire, in an exciting final at Brintons.

Cookley's Charlie Gumbridge, Bernard Lacey and Simon Williams were losing semi-finalists along with Gareth Bird, Wayne Chesterton and Neil Clarke, of St Ambrose.

John Worboys, of Stourport, took the Treadwell Cup Singles Knockout at St Ambrose, pipping Chainwire's Paul Binns 15-14.

Worboys had already seen off Dennis Ravenscroft, of Chainwire, in the semis, while Binns beat Bob Hancher, of St Johns.

It was the ladies' turn on Friday at Bewdley with the first running of the Tony Crisp Singles since 1999 attracting 16 entries.

Jayne Saunders, of Bewdley, was triumphant as she defeated club-mate Rose Bradley 21-15 with Chris Green and Jan Whitefoot the beaten semi-finalists.

The final competition was the Worboys Fours at Stourport on Sunday which produced a near repeat of last year's final.

A St Johns four of Mick Williams, Dereck Maddocks, Hancher and Gary Coomby defeated S Williams, Bernard Lacey, Gumbridge and Richard Scotford 13-4 in a final played over 11 ends to retain the trophy for a second year.

Jan and John Worboys, helped by their grandson Jake, provided the refreshments.

Meanwhile, the Jubilee Mk1 and Mk2 competitions reach the quarter-final stages on Monday.

Stourport Bowling Green Club hold their annual Lord Ednam Trophy on Sunday, July 20, at 2pm.
