A DOUBLE dose of action awaits Kidderminster Harriers as their tiny squad open the pre-season friendly campaign at the weekend.

Ian Britton's men make the short trip to Dr Martens League Evesham United on Saturday and Midland Alliance Stratford Town the next day with plenty of work still to be done.

Boss Britton is yet to add to his 14 contracted players and is playing a waiting game in the transfer market while other clubs finalise their squads.

One example is his desire to bring Walsall's Andy Bishop back for a second loan spell to bolster his thread-bare attack.

But the Division One side will not agree to a deal until they boost their own short-handed strike-force.

Fans will have their first real look at a series of trialists bidding to impress over pre-season, including veteran striker John Williams and ex-Wolves youngster Graham Ward in midfield.

Former Sheffield United reserve defender Kevin Murphy, brother of ex-West Brom player Shaun, is the latest trialist addition.

The only summer signing so far, defender Matt Gadsby, is also set to make his non-competitive club debut during the weekend friendlies which kick-off at 3pm.

Harriers are likely to field a different line-up in each half of the matches.

Teenager Inderpaul Khela has not been offered a permanent contract but could sign for Evesham when he returns from holiday.

Fellow youngster Matt Lewis has a challenge ahead as he enters the final year of his deal.

Previous boss Jan Molby rated Lewis, initially spotted by Britton, as a potential £1 million player.

The current manager admitted: "There comes a time when you have to stop talking about potential and that time has now come for Matt.

"He needs to build up his physical strength and improve his work rate. If he does that then there is no reason why he can't fulfil that potential."

Lewis scored goals in loan spells at Evesham and Solihull last season but did not make as much of an impact at higher-ranked Bath.

Meanwhile, Harriers' Division Three visit to York City has been moved back 24 hours so they will play on Sunday, December 21.

The trip to Doncaster Rovers will now be on Friday, February 27, due to a weekend horse racing meeting in the town.

Wednesday, August 13, is the date for the Carling Cup first round tie at Division One giants Ipswich Town.

There are executive boxes available for Harriers' first home friendly with Leicester on Monday, July 21.
