Students at South Bromsgrove High School will discuss the true consequence of crime in a drama production next week.

Members of Bromsgrove District Council, West Mercia Police as well as other pupils and their parents have been invited to see the show called 'A Bit of a Laff' on July 9.

The play, penned by Mancunian teacher and writer Ian MacCormack, looks at the effect car crime, violence and burglary has on the community.

Featuring 12 talented teenagers from the Charford Road school, it has been produced in conjunction with Worcestershire County Council and the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Youth Offending Service.

Peter Heath, spokesman for the county Youth Offending Service explained: "The play tells three stories which are in some way connected.

"One of them is about a group of youths who steal a car and kill someone while out on a joy ride. It is set locally too, with slides showing scenes of Charford used as the set."

A Bit of a Laff was presented to youngsters at some of Bromsgrove middle schools, including St John's and Aston Fields, last month. The production is also being taped for use in schools and with convicted young offenders.

"The video will be used to show convicted criminals the possible effects of their actions.

"For example, when they steal something from a small family-run shop, they might not think it matters. But if too much is taken a business like that could fold," explained Peter.
