After ducking his plane under electricity grid cables carrying 60,000 volts and crashing in a field at Abbots Morton, near Inkberrow, last Thursday, a 30-year-old Birmingham man climbed calmly out of the cockpit and walked to the nearest telephone box to report the incident to his aerodrome and then asked the Evesham Fire Brigade to stand by.

The pilot, Sgt V R Oliver of No. 5 reserve Flying School RAF Castle Bromwich, was flying a De Havilland Tiger Moth on forced landing practice in an authorised low flying area.

During the war he piloted Halifax bombers and had crashed on one other occasion.
