A NUMBER of oak pumping rods and water pipes believed to be at least 200 years old were discovered when Mr Alfred John Tipping, of Hookey's Farm, Cookhill, decided to have the old-fashioned deep well at the rear of his farmhouse cleaned out and modernised.

The rods vary in length from 6ft to 11ft and in weight from three cwt to eight cwt.

It took three men to bring the pipes to the surface of the well with a block and tackle.

It is believed they are among the first of their kind to be discovered in the district.
