December 26, 1952

THE retirement of Mrs SE Evans from the teaching staff of Mappleborough Green Church of England School after 18 years' service was marked by the presentation to her of an oak clock at the annual joint Christmas party at the school.

The presentation was done by the oldest girl and boy and the money for the gift was subscribed by staff, pupils and school managers.

The vicar, Canon PG Kemp, paid tribute to the many years' service Mrs Evans had given to the school.

Mrs Evans, who is leaving the district to live in Oxford, took an active interest in the activities of the village.

She was a pioneer of the Women's Institute, acting as vice-president and was chiefly responsible for the formation of the Youth Fellowship.
