ANGRY residents confronted a top representative of power distributor Aquila to demand an end to frequent power cuts.

Kenton Bradbury, the firm's asset management managing director, was at Earl's Croome Village Hall to talk about the damage and disruption caused by last October's storms.

However, local people packed into the hall and interrupted Mr Bradbury's presentation to the Southern Area Joint Councillor Forum on Wednesday (June 4).

"A lot of people in Naunton get lots of power cuts all the time, not just in the storms," said one man.

Upton mayor Eric White agreed. "We're having incessant power cuts," he said. "Sometimes it's just for a few seconds, sometimes it's up to 25 minutes. It messes up everything in the house."

People complained of having to reset clocks, freezers defrosting and even the loss of powered oxygen supplies to the elderly.

"One storm a year is an acceptable level but most of the people here are having ten or 20 power cuts a month," said another resident. "There's something seriously wrong with the network in the area."

Mr Bradbury promised that something would be done.

"I give you an absolute commitment that we'll look at it," he said. "That's not the level of service we want to provide."

Mr Bradbury said Aquila had spent £2 million upgrading the network and was providing generators to minimise disruption in the event of power failure.
