BOWLING: Chester Road Bowling Club members enjoyed a week-long bowling tour of Cumbria as part of their centenary celebrations.

Thirty-three members started off the action against Port Carlisle Bowling Club with a convincing victory.

Anthony Taylor (skip), Mike Bond, Pat Griffin and Mary Bannister beat a strong opposing team by 28 shots to 15.

Two days of bowling at Wetheral (Eden Valley) and Cockermouth proved competitive with the best result from the rink skipped by club captain Alan Hall.

Hall was well backed up by Sheila Hall, Mary Howles and Mike Bond.

Sandra Ash skipped the best rink at Cockermouth, winning 17-8, supported by Les Bannister, Graham Roberts and Jean Bailey.

After a day's relaxation, Taylor repeated his successful skipping in a 25-9 win over St Mary Port with Howles, Margaret Burbey and Bannister.

The final bowling day took the members to the local 135-year-old Carlisle club.

Roger Perks skipped the winning rink with Jill Roberts, Bailey and Robert O'Hara in a 24-11 victory.

At the presentation evening, the top distinction for the ladies went to Aileen Perks with the best aggregate during the tour.

A Perks also showed constant precise bowling as lead bowler.

The men's distinction went to Bond who had shown his versatility on four winning rinks.

Win Aldred, the ladies' captain and tour organiser, was given a clock.
