DRIFT into a world of imagination where dream and reality combine when The Tempest is danced as a full-length ballet in Evesham.

Independent Ballet Wales is coming to town this month to present Shakespeare's last play in a performance billed as "an adventure in dance beyond your imagination".

The group of young dancers say they are aiming to push back the barriers of classical ballet and they are doing this by challenging their dancers to interpret some of the finest characters in timeless and powerful pieces of literature.

And The Tempest has plenty of characters for the group to get to grips with.

It tells the tale of a party stranded on an island in a storm - a magical place inhabited by the magician, Prospero, his daughter Miranda, their twisted slave Caliban and their helper, Ariel, spirit of the air.

Love and bewilderment, reality, magic and dreams entwine and lend themselves to a magical evening of dance.

Independent Ballet Wales specially choreographs its works to be adapted for large theatres and small arts centres and as a result, tours more venues than any other company. The Tempest is given "a new and utterly fresh awakening" in its new ballet, claim company members.

The latest tour brings The Tempest to Evesham Arts Centre on Sunday, June 15. The curtain goes up at 7.30pm. Tickets are available in advance from The Evesham Book Centre in the Library Arcade, off High Street, phone 01386 45567.
