A STUDENT nurse from Worcestershire has grabbed the headlines after being hand-picked for a day of glamour modelling in London.

Charlotte O'Meara, a psychiatric nursing student at University College Worcester, sent her picture into a Daily Star competition after her boyfriend convinced her to give it a go.

And the 19-year-old blonde could not believe her luck when she found out she had scooped £250, a day's modelling in the capital, and the title Student of the Month for June.

"My mum was next to me when I answered the phone and we were both ecstatic," said the teenager, from Hagley. "It was a brilliant feeling and I couldn't believe I had been chosen from all the entries."

Charlotte, who was visiting London for the first time on the day trip, went to the shoot with her mother, Elaine O'Meara, a Birmingham-based nurse.

"At first my mum was concerned it could be a bit seedy but it was very professionally done, and everybody really put us at ease," she said. "People were offering us cups of tea and, though the shoot felt a bit odd at first, I was really relaxed by the end."

Charlotte's local pub The Station, in Hagley, has pinned up a copy of the pictures, which appeared on the centre pages of the national newspaper on Tuesday, June 3.

However, she has not let local celebrity status go to her head.

"Everybody seems to have seen it and I'm getting calls from lots of friends and neighbours," she said. "But though I really enjoyed the day, it's not something I really want to do again.

"I have always wanted to be a psychiatric nurse and I am definitely going to stick with that. I'm in the middle of my exams at the moment so I'm working really hard but it was a fun day's break."

Charlotte could now be in line to win £2,000 if she is named Daily Star's Student of the Year 2003.
