COLWALL'S young side demolished visitors Dales in this Catley Staite Herefordshire Sunday League match.

COLWALL v DALES

Colwall fielded nine players under the age of 19 and there was rarely a moment when they did not look in total command of the game.

The home side won the toss and chose to bat first. Visiting from Pakistan for the summer, the impressive Majid set about building a big innings. Ably supported by Matt Fortnum and Mike King the innings grew. Fortnum fell in the ninth over, but King played the supporting role to perfection and they put on 150 for the second wicket.

Majid's 50 came just before the first hour passed, many of his best shots being square on the off side. King played two memorable straight drives for boundaries before perishing in the thirtieth over.

Shortly afterwards, a leg glance brought Majid to three figures, from which point he set about destroying the visitor's bowling. His unbeaten 153 took his total runs for his first weekend with the club to more than 200.

Chasing 227 against an enthusiastic and lively Colwall team was always going to be hard.

When Andy Sutton struck with two wickets in his second over the task became impossible. Dales made no impression on the Colwall total and despite very attacking field placings, the visiting batters were unable to score at the necessary rate.

Chris Wheeler bowled a tidy spell into the wind at the pavilion end, picking up the wicket of Davies caught at mid on by Arun. William Coomer, bowling his loopy leg breaks, tied the batters in knots and was unlucky not to pick up more wickets.

Good close catching saw nearly all chances comfortably taken with skipper Riley picking up the final catch to win the game.

This team showed great potential and with so many strong young players Colwall will be aiming to top this league come September.

COLWALL II v ST STEPHENS

COLWALL Seconds batted first on a damp wicket at Ghost Meadow on Sunday.

St Stephens soon made inroads to the early Colwall batting with leg spinner Cox removing Barnes and Burns and medium pacer Wilson bowling Cooke. This left Colwall at 62-3 when Andy Bishop joined David Powell at the wicket.

The pair proceeded to add 186 for the fourth wicket. Bishop on his debut was solid in defence at first but eventually opened out to score a hard hit 73. Powell was fluent in a chanceless unbeaten 139 that contained two sixes and 13 fours. The innings closed with a score of 262-4 in their 40 overs.

In reply St Stephens never looked capable of challenging the total. Panter made a stubborn unbeaten 47 as they fell short of the total by 104 runs

Tim Hill 1-16, Eddie Hill 1-11 and Paul Barnes 2-15 were the pick of the home attack.
