ONE of the region's top Professional Golfers Association Professionals is aiming to introduce youngsters into the game with an exciting new Young Masters programme at Ombersley Golf Club.

Hosted by PGA Professional Noel Woodman, the unique new programme offers boys and girls between the ages of 6-16 years the most comprehensive introduction to golf the game has ever seen explains Woodman.

"The success of players like Tiger Woods has made golf extremely popular with young people," says Noel, "But the problem for most has been how to get started in the game."

"Now for the first time, an exciting junior golf programme is available to young people, which not only makes it easy for them to start playing golf, but also helps them to progress to a level where they can compete with other youngsters, or simply enjoy playing a healthy, relaxing sport for the rest of their lives."

Youngsters who want to take part in the YMG programme don't need to be a member of a golf club, as all equipment needed to get started can be provided by the PGA Professional. Elsewhere in the country, YMG has already proved a resounding success, encouraging boys and girls of all ages to take up and continue playing the game.

"There are five levels to learn, starting with Cadets then progressing to the Bronze, Silver, Gold and ultimately Masters levels with each level comprising of eight weekly one hour sessions which include topics on how to play, rules and etiquette," explains Woodman.

"Everyone who enrols in the programme gets their own YMG member's folder, and throughout the course we have lots of exciting activities, fun challenges and mini-competitions to ensure that the whole golfing experience is about having a good time playing sport."

The first YMG junior golf programme started at Ombersley Golf Club on Saturday, April 26 at 9.00-10am.
