Observant users of West Malvern Road will have noticed that the Village Hall clock has been missing for the past week. The good news is that it has not been stolen, but taken down for a much-needed overhaul - appropriate enough in its Golden Jubilee year - it was erected for the Queen's Coronation in 1953. It is hoped that it will soon be back in position - and keeping accurate time, in contrast to its erratic performance in recent months!

West Malvern's 'bluebell field' opposite Old Hollow should be looking its spectacular best this weekend. The field is now managed by the parish council under the rental agreement with the owners the Madresfield Estate. Despite the thatch of old bracken over much of the area, removal of the grazier's sheep earlier in the spring seems to have achieved an improved show for the second year in succession - a show it is hope will continue to improve in the future.

Eoin McCarthy of Ebrington Road, has decided not to take up his seat on the parish council. He stood at the May 1 election as a 'Stop the War Coalition' candidate. As there were only six candidates for seven seats and there was no contest, he automatically became a councillor, but has since resigned. This will leave two vacancies available to be filled by co-option to the council, which will have its first meeting on Monday.

One of the events planned for the festival weekend on June 21 and 22 is an exhibition of West Malvern memorabilia at the Village Hall on the Saturday from noon-6pm and Sunday 10am-4pm. Anyone who has interesting memorabilia or information they would be willing to display is invited to bring it to the Village Hall on the Saturday morning between 10am and noon, with items available for collection after 4pm on the Sunday. A continuous display of old pictures of West Malvern is also planned. Anyone with interesting old postcards/pictures of West Malvern they are prepared to lend for a few days should contact Peter Vant to arrange collection on 560265 as soon as possible, so they can be scanned into a computer for the presentation.

The Social Club has also offered to provide transport for senior citizens resident in West Malvern who would have difficulty getting to and from the Playing Fields on the Saturday and Sunday. This will cover the fete and re-enactment of the 1887 sports. Peter Vant is again the person to contact.
