EIGHTIES rock legend Midge Ure is coming to Worcester next week when fans can expect some familiar numbers with a different twist.

Midge is most famous for his electro-pop Ultravox hits and his involvement in Live Aid but the Huntingdon Hall audience on Wednesday will be able to enjoy acoustic renditions of songs taken from his impressive backlist, spanning four decades.

Ultravox fans will remember Midge's distinctive voice singing Reap The Wild Wind, Dancing With Tears In My Eyes and Love's Great Adventure as well as the great 80s anthem Vienna (1981), If I Was, which went to number one in 1985, and his famous rendition of No Regrets.

The band had a massive seven consecutive top ten albums in six years as well as huge singles sales but Midge had already had hits with other bands. He can count involvement with six chart-topping bands over four decades, including Slik, the Rich Kids, Thin Lizzy, Visage and Band Aid.

His experience has also been put to good use backstage and he has acted as musical director for concerts for The Prince's Trust and in honour of Nelson Mandela, produced records for Phil Lynott and Steve Harley among others, directed videos and appeared on television, stage and on film.

But in between, he has also found time to squeeze in a tour of Britain with his one-man acoustic show and locals get the chance to see it in Worcester on Wednesday.

The Midge Ure concert is one of four quality musical evenings lined up at Huntingdon Hall over the next week. Also included are a folk singer, a folk group and a jazz supergroup, providing some entertainment for toe-tappers of all types.

Emily Slade takes the stage tomorrow night. A singer, songwriter and guitarist, Emily is described as "a glowing example of vocal versatility and awesome musicianship".

The following night, a ten-strong jazz supergroup, The Great British Jazz Band, will be raising the roof.

Reading like a who's who of top jazz musicians, the band started life as a regular jam get together in a club.

Ridgeriders is the title of the show scheduled for Tuesday, taken from the Meridian television series in which presenter Nick Knowles tours southern England to blend tales of history, legend and classic motorbikes. Running since 1994, the popular series enjoys original music composed by three of the most talented musicians in the world of folk - Ashley Hutchings, Chris While and Phil Beer - who are embarking on their third tour.
