A WOMAN suffered a broken jaw after she told her boyfriend their relationship was over.

Vincent Walmsley accused 19-year-old Louisa Sewell of seeing another man and punched her in the face, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Her jaw was broken in two places and needed a metal plate inserting by surgeons.

She still had psychological problems from the injury sustained nine months ago and was wary of looking in the mirror, said John Edwards, prosecuting.

She had difficulties eating, cleaning her teeth and her confidence was undermined.

The attack happened on July 31 last year when Miss Sewell called at the defendant's home in Jubilee Drive, Kidderminster.

Walmsley, 37, was jailed for three years and ordered to serve an extra 135 days of an unexpired prison licence. He pleaded guilty to wounding.

After Miss Sewell told him their three-month romance was over, he invited her in, locked the front door and became violent.

He had previous convictions for assault, affray and wounding going back to 1979.

James Bryant, defending, said Walmsley had landed a single blow through anger.

His two children, whom he looked after alone, had threatened to run away if he was jailed.

Walmsley had sought help for anger management but was unable to get on a course.

Mr Bryant said for eight years he had kept out of trouble and tried to get his children educated.

Judge Michael Mott said he inflicted "a truly dreadful" injury on his girlfriend and added: "You are a man prone to violence and are quite dangerous in certain circumstances."
