IAN Britton is convinced that the transfer market will be 'littered with players' during the summer.

The Kidderminster Harriers chief's comments come at a time when several cash-strapped Football League clubs are struggling to keep their heads above water.

He also believes that 12-month contracts for players will become a more regular feature in football due to the current financial situation.

He said: "I think many clubs will go down this road. I suppose by doing this it will ensure players are continually fighting for their livelihood and, as a result, will make them perform better.

"The 'market' will be littered with players this summer that we can go and get. I can't see many three-year deals being handed out at this level but I still believe there is a time and place for two-year deals on the right terms."

Britton will soon be getting down to sorting his squad out for next season with a number of current players out of contract in the summer.

He will wait, however, to see which division Harriers will be in next term as they are still in with a chance of making the Nationwide League Division Three play-offs.

He will also be checking on how much he will have to spend before formulating his plans for next season.

He said: "Until I know which division we are going to be in and what my budget is going to be then it's very difficult to plan too far ahead.

"It would be nice to sort things out earlier rather than later, so we'll have to wait and see. Needless to say I know in my mind which ones I wish to keep."
