In the fall of Inquisitor, who was one of the competitors in the Champion Steeplechase at Aintree on Saturday, Mr A W Wood, who is well known in Malvern, sustained a nasty scalp wound, an injury to his nose, and also hurt one of his knees, but he was able to leave for home later in the day. Malvern's great Coro-nation night bonfire on the Worcestershire Beacon will be ignited by a representative of the youth of the town - probably a Scout or a Guide - who will use a torch brought up by relays of youthful runners, rather on the lines of the carrying of the Olympic flame. Although Ledbury Rural Council's own rate will be increased by only 1.5d. for the next half year, the rise in the county council precept makes an overall increase of 2s in the general rate for the rural district. This was fixed at the council's meeting on Tuesday at 11s 4d. A special rate of 8d in the £ for the half-year for Colwall was decided on. This was estimated to produce £400 for lighting and refuse collection. Ledbury Reporter, April 10, 1953.

Another attempt is to be made to get parish status for the Malvern urban area. An anomaly in the last local government reorganisation left the area without a parish and this has proved a disadvantage on a number of occasions. Malvern Gazette, April 6, 1978.

Life didn't look too rosy for the little duckling who was orphaned two years ago when his mum was killed on the busy Ross Road, out of Ledbury. But his luck was in. He was found by Lionel Fleetwood, of Oatleys Crescent, who popped the little ball of fluff into his pocket, and took him home.

Charlie, as he was named, has been leading a life of luxury ever since. Ledbury Reporter, April 6, 1978.
