MALVERN RFC's second string was on the road yet again on Saturday, this time to old rivals Bromsgrove.

BROMSGROVE II 0, MALVERN 'DOGS' II 71pts

With Marc Gaubert called in as a last minute replacement in the unfamiliar position of prop and several of last year's first XV on show, the Dogs looked strong on paper.

They proved they were also unbeatable in the Finstall Park mud, lighting the gloom with a sparkling 11-try display. Gaubert opened the scoring early on with veteran scrum half Dave Green following his example straight after. Andy Longley, showing all his old class and assurance at full back, ran in the next two, whilst also converting eight during the course of the afternoon.

Gaubert then crossed the line at speed before the resurgent Ben Hughes jinked through and Steve Taylor rounded off the first half with a pushover try.

The Malvern pack was far too strong for the Bromsgrove eight, pushing them back at will. Hughes grabbed a second, Gaubert got his hat-trick then Dave Hill joined the list of names on the score sheet.

It was left to man of the match Marc Gaubert to round off the display with a try of which any back would have been proud.
