KIDDERMINSTER Harriers utility player Adie Smith underwent an operation on his damaged ankle today.

He suffered the injury in a practice match and, despite a course of anti-inflamatory tablets and rest, a specialist decided surgery was needed.

Former Bromsgrove Rovers campaigner Smith is expected to be back in action within six weeks.

Defender Scott Stamps will go under the knife on Saturday for a groin injury and could be sidelined for up to 12 weeks.

Meanwhile, Harriers' young striker Matt Lewis has gone on loan to Dr Martens League Premier Division outfit Bath City.

The 18-year-old recently had a successful loan spell at Evesham United, scoring six goals for manager Phil Mullen's men.

Harriers boss Ian Britton said: "Matt has been rated as one for the future but youth team football will only im-prove him so far.

"He did well at Evesham and now I want him to play in a higher league and do the same with Bath. He needs experience of the rough and tumble of the adult game. This should be a good move for him."

Kidderminster have also re-signed John Melligan on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 20-year-old midfielder recently spent two successful months at Aggborough, scoring seven goals in 12 games, before being recalled by Wolves when they hit injury problems.

He will now be with Harriers until the beginning of January with the possibility of his stay being extended if circumstances allow.

Britton said: "I'm sure, like me, the players and fans will be delighted to see him back with us."

With Harriers being without a match on Saturday, Melligan will have to wait until Tuesday to return to action when Britton's men visit Brentford in the third round of the LDV Vans Trophy.
