A Marlbrook man was cheated out of his hard earnings when Birmingham man James Patrick McIlroy was found guilty of obtaining £6 from Birmingham Road resident Reginald Ironmonger under false pretences. The thirty-two-year old was sentenced to two months in prison, while a further two charges were brought against him for embezzling money handed to him by coach parties, which he should have handed over to his employer in Great Barr. In a statement the defendant said that he had spent all the money on backing horses and had lost it all.

Fifteen-year-old employee John Miles, a young worker at the Midland 'Red Bus' Garage, in Lickey End, was lucky to escape with a fractured wrist after he was pinned between a bus and a door whilst working at the School Lane garage.

A popular town headmaster who had served Bromsgrove High School in Stourbridge Road for 34 years died after suffering a bout of pneumonia. The death of Frederick Hibbins, who was renowned at the school for his strict but loveable nature, was mourned by thousands of students and former pupils across the district.
