A ROBOTICS specialist held workshops for students and gave a lecture on robots in space at Pershore High School this week.

Dr Ashley Green, who has been involved in science, engineering and space research for more than 25 years, held workshops with robots for students during the day.

He went on to give a lecture to members of the Worcestershire branches of the Institute of Electrical Engineers and the Institute of Physics in the evening.

Dr Green presented a review of the challenges involved in space exploration with past and present solutions and the coming "Golden Era of Robotic Space Exploration".

This features international missions to Mars, Saturn, Venus, the Moon, comets and asteroids.

The High School and the Institute of Electrical Engineers organised the event to mark the newly-awarded Technology College status at the school, which is also taking part in this year's BBC Family Robot Days programme.

Dr Green has worked on themes of space exploration and robotics over recent years and is now RoboFesta Research Fellow at the Open University.
