KIDDERMINSTER Harriers are to start work on a new all-seater stand at Aggborough in the next two weeks.

The Bill Greaves Terrace, known locally as the 'Cowshed', will be used for the last time at Saturday's home game with Torquay United.

The new 2,040-seater East Stand, opposite the main stand, will cost £1.1 million, but a grant of £850,000 from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund covers the bulk of the cost, and ensures Aggborough meets new Football League requirements.

Building contractors Barr will move in and cordon off the area on February 24, and demolition will begin a week later.

The stand, due to be completed at the start of July, also features 24 wheelchair spaces and a new television gantry.

Bill Greaves Terrace season ticket holders can upgrade their terrace ticket free of charge for a seat in block A of the main stand before each game. Other regular users of the Bill Greaves Terrace can use either the North Stand or the west side of the South Stand terrace.

During building work seats will not be available to away fans, who will be allocated the east side of the South Stand, although the whole of this terrace will be used for visitors if necessary.

Stadium manager Roger Barlow said: "We appreciate the building work will cause our fans some inconvenience but unfortunately due to the timescales involved in getting it ready for the start of next season we have to start work straight away."

Aggborough's capacity will be reduced to 4,421 during building work but will rise to around 6,500 on completion, giving a total of 3,140 seats.
