WILLIAM Sparkes, a saltmaker from Union Lane, appeared before Droitwich magistrates on a "nuisance" charge." He had committed the offence while hopelessly drunk at Stoke Works Railway Station. Stationmaster George Barker told the court that several people had complained about his conduct. He was fined 10/- (50p) with 7/6 (37.5p) costs.

DROITWICH Board of Guardians were considering changing the method by which they clothed children in their care but who were fostered out. Presently they were given 9d (4p) a week but in future the youngsters might have to make an annual appearance before the board to be given clothes directly by them.

BROMSGROVE'S first public gymnasium was to shortly open at the Institute in New Road with an ex-army instructor on had to put members through their paces in the boxing ring, on the hoops and on the bars. If successful classes for women might start next year. Members would pay 3/- (15p) for a 12-week course.

BROMSGROVE magistrates came down hard on horse coper Alfred Ansell when he appeared before them charged with cruelty to a horse. The court heard he travelled the country buying old horses to export to the continent and which were destined to become 'beef extract.' The animal in question, a broken down mare, too weak to stand had been left by Ansell in a field near the Golden Cross pub at Marlbrook without food or water. He was fined £2 plus costs of £2/7/6 (£2.7.5p).
