HOOLIGANS and vandals were making life a misery for scores of people in Rubery especially the elderly who were afraid to venture out after dark. Gang warfare between pupils at schools in the area was also a cause of concern for local people. A lack of amenities was one reason put forward for the problem.
MUMS-to-be in Bromsgrove were angry at a suggestion that they may have to travel to a hospital in Worcester to have their babies. It was one of four options being considered by the area health authority, an one if adopted, which would free up 50 beds at the new general hospital at Redditch for other purposes.
A NEW singles club in Droitwich was going from strength to strength. The Single, Separated, Widowed and Divorced Club which to date had held just two meetings had attracted 70 members. Meetings were held twice a week at the Worcestershire Hotel and the Working Men's Club.
FOUR letters penned by Bromsgrove author Laurence Housman between 1907 and 1921 were set to be sold by auction by Sotheby's in London. In one, Laurence who was lesser known than his poet-scholar brother Alfred, complained of his "microscopic" income.
