July 19 1902

HERBERT Emms, a labourer of Broadway, was summoned for using obscene language at Broadway on July 2. Defendant admitted the offence. PS Lewis said, that at 9.45pm, he heard a disturbance near the New Inn. He found the defendant quarrelling with his wife and using obscene language. Defendant said there was a misunderstanding between him and his wife. He said they had between 30 and 40 years together on and off." Fined 5s and 7s 6d costs. He was allowed until Saturday to pay.

75 years ago-

July 23 1927

THE County Swimming Championships, held for the first time at the Evesham Swimming and Water Polo Club on Saturday, brought brilliant success to swimmers from the town. The course was half a mile from the Baths to Long Meadow and back, and about 250 people lined the banks to see Mr S Tarry win the Preedy trophy and the gold medal. Messrs F Sollars and H Brotherton took second and third places respectively.

50 years ago-

July 19 1952

SIX guide companies in the Evesham district have been competing for the second year in succession for a divisional shield awarded for patrol work. This year, the prize went to the First Broadway Company. At a simple little ceremony round the camp fire at Broadway on Thursday evening, the assistant County Commissioner, Mrs Porter, presented the shield to the four patrol leaders of the Broadway company.

A MIDLAND RED mini-bus service starts in the Vale of Evesham on Saturday. Known as the Wayfarer, it's a small 16-seater mini-bus which will travel between Evesham and Pershore. The service will serve villages which have previously been without any form of public transport and will also link up with services to Birmingham and Worcester.
