July 26 1902

AT a meeting of Evesham's Board of Guardians, the Medical Officer reported that all the sick inmates had been moved to the new infirmary by Inspector Yarnold and two policemen who were all skilled in ambulance work. The removal had taken about three hours and the police had done it in their spare time. In recompense, the Board decided to give a sovereign to the Police Outing Board.

July 23 1927

ONE of the items on the agenda for the meeting of Evesham Town Council was that of road traffic. Plans in connection with improvement of managing the traffic at the junction of Waterside and Port Street were submitted by the Parking of Vehicles sub-committee and discussed. The sub-committee was empowered to carry out its suggestions on a temporary footing on trial.

AN open day at Pershore County Modern School on Thursday gave parents an opportunity of inspecting examples of work done by pupils during the last 12 months. A comprehensive exhibition of work arranged in the assembly hall included a special section devoted to religious knowledge. Great interest was shown in a series of folders, the result of research by the children into topics of local relevance.

July 28 1977

IT was like a scene from a Wild West movie as residents of Donneybrook Road, Evesham, armed with fence posts and thick wire began "operation claim jump" at the bottom of their gardens last Friday. The idea of laying claim to a strip of no-man's land between Donneybrook Road and Durcott Road, came after the residents realised that no-one was going to do anything about tidying up the area. Residents said that no-one claimed to own the land, which had become an eyesore, so they decided to claim "squatters' rights".
