AN Evesham minor whose parents objected to his marriage was the first man in the country to use a new Act to get permission to marry from town magistrates on Tuesday. The man, aged 20, wanted to marry a 22-year-old woman, but his parents objected on the grounds that he had recently had a nervous breakdown. The man explained his situation and said that his health had been improving for some time now. Magistrates granted permission.

A NEW and pressing urgency has appeared in the Vale of Evesham's campaign to raise £4,000 to "Save the Avon" by restoring Chadbury Lock. Equipment being used at the lock by the Royal Engineers from Long Marston may soon be needed elsewhere. So far, the campaign has yielded just over £1,000. The lock can be virtually restored by the end of summer provided that the soldiers who are prepared to do the work are supplied with the necessary materials.

It was revealed that a wire band was holding the chimney together, it was cut loose and the chimney fell.
