COFTON Falcons will be chasing a cup double this month.

The Bromsgrove Advertiser/Messenger District League side has continued to make great strides in what is its first season in open age football.

Having been founded as recently as 1996, the team could be heading for its best ever season with what must be one of the youngest sides in the league. The players' ages range from 17 to 23 years.

The first of their two cup finals, both at Redditch United's Valley Stadium, is this Sunday, April 6, when they face Blackwell in the Rose Bowl (6.30pm).

The other final is on April 27, also a 6.30pm kick off, when they take on Bromsgrove Rovers Sunday in the Bridgewater Cup.

John Wright, who began the side and describes himself as manager, tea-boy, head lad and chief bottle-washer, is full of praise for his youngsters who came together first of all in the Central Warwickshire Youth League.

"It has been steady progress and to get to these finals in open age football is a fine achievment for such a young side."

"We've a good chance of winning both cups but it won't be easy."

They'll be pinning their hopes on their team spirit and judging by Cofton's goalscoring record this season their opponents won't know where the danger will be coming from.

They've got a 19 man squad and 17 players have scored one or more goals this season.

Top scorer is Mark Cook with 13.
