POLICE are hunting a pair of conmen who got into the home of an elderly Kidderminster woman - and made off with £140.

The crime - which occurred in Offmore Road at about 12.25pm on Monday - bore all the hallmarks of a "classic" distraction raid, with the target a woman in her 80s who was on her own.

One man called and claimed there had been an explosion nearby and he needed to check the water pressure in the house.

He entered and turned on taps in the kitchen, watched by the woman, before leaving the house, claiming he had to get a spanner.

Later the woman discovered two rooms had been disturbed, one upstairs and one downstairs, and £140 cash was missing.

It is likely an accomplice got in while the woman was distracted, said police.

The man who called at the door was white, aged 20 to 25, 5ft 6ins, clean-shaven, with black collar-length hair.

He was wearing a blue striped shirt and dark trousers and possibly wore a tie.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw the man in the area.
